Lakkadi...
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan
and Chorus
Lyrics:
Vaali
Poor Shankar Mahadevan tries to infuse
some spirit into this done-to-death mettu
but to no avail. Tight lyrics and wind
instruments alone add a glimmer. ‘Chinna
Thambi’ is an amusing usage.

Crisp use of Indian percussions and other instruments
and a catchy pallavi make you want to listen to it
again. The Sankarabaranam raga used holds up this
song. Could hit the charts fleetingly.
Chekka...
Vocals: Udit Narayan, Anuradha Sriram
and Chorus
Lyrics: Vaali
Udit Narayan both amuses and exasperates you with
his wayward diction. This song is a typical Srikanth
Deva number with fun clarinet bits. Doesn’t
grip your attention.
Vaarthaiyala...
Vocals: Haricharan
Lyrics: Vaali
Compact lyrics from Vaali that speak of betrayal and
sorrow. Haricharan adds the right emotion. A slow
number, but a short one.
Onnarooba...
Vocals: Velmurugan and Chorus
Lyrics: Vivega
Colorful lyrics that capture the mad atmosphere prevalent
in village fairs! Velmurugan’s earnest voice
and of course the nagaswaram and thavil add the right
touch. Nothing to go ga-ga over.
Aattattha
Paaru...
Vocals: Naveen, Megha
Lyrics: Krishnaraam
A ‘dappaankutthu’ dance number which is
neither here nor there. The refrain ‘we will
rock you; ok thank you’ tries very hard to drag
us out of the apathy we have sunk into by now, but
to no avail. Haven’t we heard this mettu before?
Verdict:
For his own good, Srikanth Deva should break free
of the ‘village disco’ type of songs he
seems to be churning out regularly these days. Cheerful,
no doubt, but boringly predictable. |
