Victim is a Tamil anthology consisting of four short films directed by Pa.Ranjith, M.Rajesh, Chimbu Deven and Venkat Prabhu. The anthology has been jointly produced by Axess Film Factory and Black Ticket company and is streaming on Sony Liv. Every short film is weaved together by a common theme which focuses on the victimisation of people on various grounds.

Pa Ranjith's Dhammam tells the story of a farmer from a lower caste who is subjected to all forms of oppression. Guru Somasundaram as the helpless character lures the audience into the setting with his genuinity. The little girl is impeccable in exhibiting the emotions and feelings that are appropriate for the situation. Kalaiyarasan as a dominant caste conscious lad fits well. The success of this film lies in the transportation of the audience to its setting. Though the film had apparent references to Buddha, it had multiple other subtle layers to understand. A different perspective upon the exploitation of the lower caste and its consequences on the dominant caste is explored. The effects of mob mentality is captured, ideally elevating the film as an experience rather than a watch.

The film will work for those who grow along with the unfolding of events. Trying to afford an experience is a demanding task which succeeds only in parts.

A Rajesh.M thriller tries very hard to be a thriller in every possible way but in vain. We are introduced to the character of Priya Bhavani Shankar who is on her way for a night stay in a deserted resort without any background information of it. This may sound like a platform for a perfect thriller but nothing goes beyond the platform. Natty as the resort manager is taken for a ride by the script. Damsel in distress is a compelling template for a thriller which again is let down by the making. Rajesh in an attempt to break the shackles has only tightened it for himself.

Chimbu Deven takes on his usual unique way which is interesting only during the latter part of the film. The film stars Thambi Ramaiah, Nassar, and Vigneshkanth in roles which are tailor made for them.

Kottai Paakum Motta Maadi Sitharum has all the potential to be a comic satire but again the inconsistencies in the plot derails the film. What begins as a promising tale of fantasy is shelved by various anomalies which bases the upcoming pitfall.

The exchanges between Nassar and Thambi Ramaiah try to crack jokes at current politics, lifestyle looks forcefully inserted into the film.

Venkat Prabhu's hit or miss formula works to a certain extent. We get to see the personal moments of a woman who talks kinky in a telephone conversation. We also get to see her pee, yes you read it right, we see her pee which in any way is not related to the script. Revealing the wafer thin plot will spoil the plot, hence approach it with an open mind.

Amala Paul as a woman committing adultery has become a run of the mill character for her. Prasanna has evolved so much that he fits perfectly in every character. Having two strong artists doesnt help one bit to a vague storyline. Rooting for a character is the basic thing that a film needs to achieve in a survival genre. This checkbox is left unticked and so the film is termed as technically strong and emotionally weak.
