The announcement came from Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today (19th May), stating that the GST tax for the entertainment industry would be 28%.
We got in touch with National award winning writer, film critic, and producer Dhananjayan to get a clarity on this. When we asked, if the theatre ticket prices would be hiked due to this GST implementation, he said, "Yes. The audience will have to pay Rs.120 + 28% GST. Adding the tax amount with 120, it adds up to 153.20. So, the ticket price in all the multiplexes will be Rs.153. This will be made compulsory from 1st July."
This new rule would be applicable to all the theatres throughout India. Ticket prices might differ from one theatre to another, but the addition of 28% to the ticket rate, would come into practice from July 1st. Stay tuned to this space and we will update you more on this.
