KARTHIK DIAL SEYTHA YENN MOVIE REVIEW

Simbu and Trisha’s ‘Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn’, a sequel (short film) to the 2010 romantic blockbuster ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ is finally out on YouTube in a surprise, with no fanfare or celebratory release. The fans of the movie and GVM fans are really excited, as their favorite characters are back. Has it created the same impact as the original? Read more to find out.

‘Karthik’ played by Simbu is easily one of the most iconic characters of Tamil Cinema in recent times, and is actually every guy’s dream - to follow your heart when everyone’s against you. With Simbu creating a character that is deeply etched in everyone’s mind, it is good to see that he hasn’t lost his touch yet.

The ‘Karthik’ moments that were loved by everyone in VTV are back and it is indeed a stroll down the memory lane when Simbu calls Trisha ‘Jessie’.

‘Jessie’ played by Trisha is also a fine portrayal of the classic character. However, ‘Jessie’ is not the same ‘Jessie’ anymore. Out of the duo, it seems like she has aged more gracefully and has become more mature now, as she’s the mother of two.

Trisha, who’s given some stellar performances post ‘VTV’ brings back ‘Jessie’ with ease. Her expressions and dialogues, especially where she says “Jessie, Jessie”, is bound to make anyone fall in love with the character all over again.

‘Karthik Dial Seytha Enn’ is a little over a 12-minute odd conversation between a former couple. Out of the duo, one has moved on, while one clearly hasn’t. A.R Rahman's musical touch, the evergreen BGM from the original, and the songs rightly placed, make it breezy.

A neat short film has been presented, with GVM’s touch evidently visible in some places. This movie is sure to put up a smile on your face if you are a big fan of ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’.

Technically, the short film shot in iPhone by the director himself with limited scope mainly on location due to the lockdown and edited by Anthony has no big things to complain, but it is an experience to revisit some of the nice characters and feel-good moments from ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’.
