The success of Makkal Aatchi prompted Selvamani to direct another political film, Arasiyal. The movie again had Mamooty and Roja in lead roles with Shilpa Shirodkar playing an important role. Although a complex story of an honest police officer who gets entangled in the mesh of politics, Arasiyal was not hugely successful.
