This song is a full-length description of
what the Robot is and what it is expected
to be. One can say that all of Asimov’s
laws have been enumerated in Tamil for the
Endhiran to follow.
Listening to the song line-by-line will give
you an idea about the Robot in Endhiran. The
most interesting part is the first line which
refers to the robot as ‘Puthiya Manidha’.
Never before, except in the movie Bicentennial
Man, has a robot been referred to as human.
So, is the Kaviperarasu trying to blur lines
here?
Ezham arivai ezhuppum muyarchi
Now, we have no idea what ezham arivu means,
especially for a robot. Is there an attempt
to refer to ‘artificial intelligence’?
Enthiran Veezhvathillai
karuvil pirantha ella marikum
arivil piranthu
maripathe illai
idho
en endhiran
ivan amaran
All these lines want to convey the one big
message – the Endhiran is immortal.
1. Aan petravan aan magane
2. Robo robo panmozhikal katralum
en thanthai mozhi
tamizh allavaa!
The two pieces from the song appear at different
portions. But, the first one probably explains
the second. There has been considerable interest
generated over the use of the term ‘Thanthai
mozhi’. Well, we believe the term has
been used because technically speaking, Endhiran
does not have a ‘thaai’ and so
cannot have a ‘thaimozhi’ too.
He was brought to earth by a man and is consequently
referred to as ‘aan magan’.
