OF DIRECTORS AND DEBUTANTS

There is something about a debutant that fascinates directors which is why we get new actors every year. A debutant is fresh and raw; can be molded by the director into the character that he wants. A debutant has no image, no star trappings, and more importantly, generates no preconceived impressions about a movie in the minds of audiences. That is why, directors sometimes find debutants inevitable. Here we look at some of the top directors of Kollywood who are at the moment working with debutants in important roles. Here is hoping that all of them turn out to be great promises for the future.
Sameera Reddy
Veera - Gautham Menon - Nadunisi Naigal
With his track record and current form, any leading star in Kollywood would be willing to work with Gautham Menon, especially after he gave Silambarasan’s career a face lift and image makeover with VTV. But, guess what, Gautham decided to go in for a debutant as the male lead in his next film. He also curiously chose to keep most (or even all) details about the film under wraps until very recently. The title, literally translating to ‘Midnight Dogs’; the hush-hush making, debutant in the lead and all, have increased the sense of mystery surrounding the film; something that is just perfect for a thriller. Anyway, the biggest gainer from all this is definitely Veera. And, Sameera Reddy gets to strengthen her foothold in Kollywood.
