Leading ladies get selected for their looks, their ability to dance and other such pretty attributes. But, it is only seldom that a lady gets selected because she can speak Tamil fluently. Yes, that is main reason why Bala chose Janani Iyer for his first ever light-hearted film, Avan Ivan. Bala was searching for a lady comfortable and fluent in Tamil (have they become such a rare breed that directors have to search!) and came across Janani Iyer and that was it. Well, getting selected is the easy part. We know that Bala expects nothing but the best when it comes to performances. So, it will be a tough, but ultimately educational experience for the debutant, working under such a director. Maybe, at the end of it, Tamil cinema will get a well molded performer.
