A clean family entertainer, this Dhanush film had a few characters belonging to a particular section of community in Coimbatore who found the mention of their caste them derogatory and did not allow the movie to release in and around Coimbatore areas until remedial measures were taken. Dhanush issued an apology statement and assured that there is no intention to hurt anybody's feelings. Later on the caste name was muted wherever it appeared in the film and only then Uthamaputhiran was allowed to be released.
