Aaranya Kaandam, Thiagarajan
Kumararaja’s debut film produced by
SPB Charan ran into trouble with the censor
officials, who demanded as many as 50 cuts
and objected to the foul language and graphic
depiction of violence and sex in the film.
SPB Charan refused to let them butcher the
film and fought the censors in court. His
efforts were fruitful as a tribunal cleared
the film for release and a gem of a film which
had won the Grand Jury Award at the South
Asian International Film Festival in New York
saw the light of day.
