Aaranya Kaandam made by debutant Thiagarajan Kumararaja was without doubt one of the breakout films of the year. Yasmin Ponnappa had one of the boldest roles seen in Tamil cinema and she delivered the goods with élan. It was not a performance that people will forget in a hurry.
