KAMAL'S 1989 CHANAKYAN - A MOVIE WHICH COULD BE ENJOYED EVEN TODAY

Chanakyan released in the year 1989 was an intelligently made film which was directed by Rajeev Kumar for whom it was his debut project. The expertise of the director combined with the stupendous performance of Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan gave the audience a superb movie watching experience. Although the film was basically a revenge saga, Rajeev Kumar’s treatment gave Chanakyan a different feel.

Thilakan played the role of a CM, a powerful antagonist and Urmila Matondkar his beautiful daughter in the film. Jayaram was the mimicry artist who was used by Kamal for his revenge. The current generation should watch this film to understand the briliance of Kaml-Rajeev Kumar team work.

Kamal had in fact said, "Rajeev started his career as a director with me in the lead nearly 25 years ago. I am sure when he is up and about he will have many more movies to direct. He has already done 25 films in his career.He will do 25 more and I’ll be in at least 10 of them.”
