In an exclusive interview, she spoke about how many students in colleges would laugh and giggle at the very mention of vagina, menstrual cup or periods. "When we went to create awareness on parenting, breastfeeding and menstrual cups, girls would giggle. When it comes to body parts, everyone gets shy," she said.

Swati noted that many have the misconception in their minds that sex education means talking about sex. "There are lot more topics in sex education than merely talking about sex. We talk about safe and unsafe touch, knowing about one's body, sexuality, consent and more," she said.

Research says that children who talk about their private parts with the correct name are safe from child sexual abuse as they talk confidently and tell their parents openly about the same, Swati reveals.

"Many don't have the basic understanding on periods. Because of that, there is fear and inhibition to try out a product like menstrual cups," Swati said while elaborating on menstrual issues and added, "There are a lot of myths on menstruation and since they don't know the scientific reasons behind menstruation and there's a lack of knowledge, they believe the myths." 

Swati Jagdish conducts several workshops on menstrual health, sex education, parenting and makes sure she imparts the right knowledge to her kid Maya. Most of the videos that she posts with her kid on her Instagram page 'Maya's Amma' have gone viral.
