Vishal, who addressed the media at the Producers meeting today was happy to have called off the strike. The actor spoke about piracy and also the GST tax and how the industry has to be made transparent to benefit one and all. He thanked RK Selvamani and spoke about the ticket price scenario. Vishal said:
“This shutdown is not against the government or something. Tamil cinema is in a bad state, especially producers. GST tax has been announced to be 28 % and it is applicable from July month. Now all the movies which will be pushed from June to July will have producers facing a loss only. After a lot of meetings and today’s final meeting, we have brought about a few amends to benefit one and all.
First of all, to make it more beneficial for the audiences, online ticket prices that charge rupees 30 for every ticket will somehow be reduced to 7 or 10 rupees. Just like in the Kerala Film Producers association, online tickets here will be made cheap through a scheme we are trying to implement. When 10 tickets are booked, 300 rupees is charged which is high and this will be reduced to less than 10 rupees. Hence 20 rupees relief per ticket will be provided to audiences. We want a transparent box-office collection and we will strive towards that as well. As told before, lots of people will get affected by this shutdown and that is clearly not our agenda.”
