The movie went on to become one of the major hits of that year and accolades poured in for Vadivelu's portrayal of the dangerously foolish ruler.
A sequel to the film titled Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi which was helmed by Chimbudevan featured Vadivelu playing the lead. The makers also released a first look motion poster during mid-2017. But the filming had been temporarily shelved due to few issues between the actor and the production team.
Post which, Shankar, the producer of the film, complained to the Producers Council that Vadivelu had caused a loss of Rs 7 crore. So, accordingly Vadivelu was given a red card by the Producers Council. And thus, the sequel’s filming was stopped fully.
In a statement issued on August 27, 2021, the Tamil Film Producers Council said, “In connection with the above complaint, the executives of the Tamil Film Producers Council, actor Mr. Vadivelu and S. Pictures have been contacted in person and the issue has been resolved smoothly.” The filming for the film is also expected to begin soon. And the announcement for the same is expected to be out soon.
