Udhayanidhi Stalin, who contested from the Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni constituency, has won by a margin of about 68,000 votes and beat BJP candidate Kassali A.V.A. The DMK Youth Secretary has won the election for the first time in his debut itself.

The registered votes in the assembly elections held in Tamil Nadu on April 6 are being counted today. The DMK alliance is leading in about 149 seats. AIADMK is leading in about 82 seats. DMK is leading in 16 constituencies in Chennai including Kolathur, Chepauk, Rayapuram, Virugambakkam, Villivakkam, Harbour and T Nagar. The DMK alliance is leading in most places in Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur districts as well.

The AIADMK is leading in most parts of Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts. AIADMK is leading in Salem and Erode districts in significant numbers. In Edappadi constituency, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Minister Thangamani and SP Velumani in Thondamuthur are leading.
