It is a known fact that Mersal is one of the highest grossing Vijay films till date. But having said that, a section of media has still been reporting Mersal to be a loss venture. To know how Mersal has performed, we got in touch with one of the most experienced distributors in Tamil Nadu, Tiruppur Subramaniam and this is what he had to say:

"Mersal has collected around Rs 12 crore in the Coimbatore region surpassing Enthiran's collection. Though Baahubali 2 had better collections, I wouldn't consider that as a proper straight Tamil film. Not just in Coimbatore, you can check with other area distributors as well, and they will tell you that Mersal is the highest grossing Tamil film till date. 

The collections are huge, So I cannot accept that Mersal is a loss venture. As I do not know the salary details and production costs involved in the making of the film, the producers need to answer about it. But as a distributor Mersal had a very good run resulting in huge collections all over."
