The Valley to release on March 2

The Valley, starring Alyy Khan and Suchitra Pillai in the leading roles, will be hitting the big screens in India on March 2. Produced by Wavefront Productions, the film is a story of an immigrant tech entrepreneur who is devastated by his daughter's suicide and his journey to find the reason behind her decision to end her life.

This compelling and heartbreaking tale is film writer Saila Kariat's debut effort as a director. The Valley brings to light a very prominent topic that is very relevant in today’s day and age - mental health and depression. It explores the struggle of one family to survive intact amidst a culture in which relationships and human connection are almost impossible to maintain. The film has won awards across many prominent film festivals like Berlin Film Festival and has been recognized at various international film festivals.

Talking about her film, director/ producer, Saila says, "The Valley is a labour of love for me, and watching it come to life from my script to the big screen has been an amazing journey. In my mind, it deals with themes of ambition and the drive for success versus human connection, through the story of a young girl suffering from depression, who makes the ultimate tragic choice. Different people have drawn different meanings from the movie, which has been really interesting to see. The Valley has been through many festivals all over the world, and I am so happy that we are all set to have its India release on March 2. It is my hope that The Valley finds an audience in all demographics all over the world.”

Talking about working on the project, Alyy Khan says, "As a father myself, suffering Neil’s tragic loss made me realise how crucial it is to take out quality time for one’s family! It was a sublime experience with a stellar director, cast and crew in sunny California.

Talking about her experience, Suchitra says, "Working on The Valley has been an absolute pleasure and one of the best jobs I've ever done. There was a wonderful team that I worked with, it was great working with Saila Kariat, though she's a first-time director, she has made a wonderful film. And of course, after being 25 years in the industry, this film has given me my first two international awards for the best actress at the Long island international film festival and international filmmaker festival Milan. I really want people to watch this film become the topic it deals with, i.e, teenage depression"

The Valley had premiered at Cinequest to a huge audience and has since been screened at over 18 film festivals including The Long Island International Film Expo, Asian American Film Festival, Carmel International Film Festival, Bushwick Film Festival and Awareness Film Festival. It has been nominated under the categories of Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Editing at festivals. It won numerous awards including Best Feature Film at Long Island International Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival and Washington DC South Asian Film Festival.
