According to a gazette notification issued by the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday, all shops and commercial establishments in the state can now operate for 24 hours a day and seven days a week which also means that the cinema theatres also come under this.
The theatres can now schedule as many shows as possible. However, this move seems to be beneficial for big stars’ films as the fans will have various options, even if they do not get tickets on the first day itself for the first show.
A super-excited Mr. Rakesh Gowthaman, the proprietor of Vettri Theatres took to his social media and shared his excitement on the new order issued. He wrote, “When 24hrs screening of movies goes live in TN, the first worthy film for this format will be #Thala’s #NerkondaPaarvai ... Sleepless nights guaranteed for all exhibitors ... #BringItOn”

However, this 24x7 move was not welcomed by all. One such among them is Tamil Nadu Film Chamber of Commerce president, Abirami Ramanathan. He expressed his disappointment and said, “TN government G.O on shops and establishments can remain open as per shop act for 24 hours is not applicable to cinema theatres. We come under Tamil Nadu Cinema Regulation Act 1956, and can play only 4 shows!”
