This announcement has made the fans go bittersweet - One one hand, they get to witness their favourite star in a new avatar soon, but on the other, the much awaited theatrical experience gets missed out.

Apart from announcing the release date, Suriya has also posted a long statement in Tamil on his official Twitter handle, as to why he opted for a direct OTT release. He also stated that he will be donating Rs. 5 crores from the proceeds of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ to charity.

A part of Suriya’s statement read “Soorarai Pottru is a result of Sudha Kongara’s immense efforts over years and I’m sure this will be one of the finest films in my career. I wish to watch this movie in Theatres, along with my lovable fans. But right now, the present situation doesn’t allow that.”

“The efforts and hardwork of so many artists in the making of Soorarai Pottru should not go in vain. It is the duty of a producer to bring such movies with so much effort to the audience, at the right time.”

“My production house 2D Entertainment has produced 8 films so far. 10 more films are under the production stage. This decision I’ve taken right now is as a producer and not as an actor, keeping the goodwill of various technicians, actors and other stakeholders.”

“I hope all the industry fraternity, my lovely brothers and sisters and everyone will accept Soorarai Pottru with love. I’m sure the movie will remain close to your heart, once you witness it. When the time is right, I will definitely work hard and release multiple films in theatres, for my fans.”
