Sun Network, which is one of the biggest network of channels in the South-Indian television market, is now all set to launch its Bengali GEC. The channel is named Sun Bangla, and was officially unveiled at a press conference in Kolkata on January 28th.
Sun Bangla, with the tagline ‘Mone Prane Bangali’ (In the mind of Bengali), will start airing from February 3rd 2019, and will be available on all cable and DTH platforms on free-to-air basis. The teaser campaign of the channel featuring various Bangla stars recently kicked off.
Post Sun Bangla, Sun Network will enter the Maharashtrian market with a channel named Sun Marathi, which is planned to debut in the financial year 2020. This channel will also be available free of cost to viewers.
For the first year, the broadcaster has planned to reportedly invest Rs.150 crores on Sun Bangla. The broadcaster also has stated that the channel will achieve break-even in 2-3 years, and will obtain 10-12% of viewership. The channel will have original, as well as commissioned content.
