EXCLUSIVE: "BUSINESS IS IMPORTANT, NOT EGO" - PRODUCER SR PRABHU ON SURIYA'S SOORARAI POTTRU OTT DEBATE!

With the movie announced and scheduled for a direct OTT release on Oct 30th, it has met with a mix of different responses among the distributors, exhibitors and the fans.

In an exclusive interaction with Behindwoods, Producer SR Prabhu, Dream Warriors has shared his reaction to this announcement.

"Since there is no certainty of theatres opening for the next few months, there is nothing wrong if a producer is opting for a digital release. Making an investment and acting on an opportunity to obtain a profit is not wrong. It's not that with the availability of theatres currently, we are choosing OTT over it," the producer said.

When asked about fans missing the theatrical experience, he said that it's not the right time, that we expect for one amidst these pandemic conditions. "Of course everybody is missing theatre experience. Theatres will exist permanently. Non-theatrical platforms is never a competitor for theatrical experience. There is no comparison between both. But when we cannot ensure the producer's profit during this tough times, we cannot argue his call. It's not fair", he added.

Prabhu said that there are more films waiting for a theatre release. "Almost 75 films are waiting for a theater release", he added.

About the response from Theatre owners and related associations, he said that everyone is responding based on the present situation. "We are all in business, and business is what's important, not ego. We are dependent on each other. So one cannot sideline the other. If both films and theaters co-exist, both can see profit," he told.
