The Made In Chennai campaign has been launched as a first step to bring about change through cleaning the city and the rivers in Chennai by Behindwoods.

Starting a campaign with not just a video, Behindwoods also got on the field and cleaned up Vadapalani Bus depot on January 21. Following that, a walkathon event took place on January 28, at Besant Nagar beach, in the presence of Raghava Lawrence for creating awareness among the public.

Taking the stage at the MIC Conclave event and talking about what could be done to keep our river and Chennai city clean, the director turned politician Seeman, of Naam Tamizhar Katchi, said:

“Our nation is a garbage dump because we do not know how to dump our garbage. Only when the people realise and understand the importance of cleanliness and dispose garbage properly, our nation will improve. During the floods, my people and I went to clean as many places as possible. For over a month, the stagnated water in many areas could not be cleared due to our poor drains.

Most countries have only dustbins but only our country has a dustbin with a board, which says dump your waste in this bin. Ezhil Nagar, ironically, is an area with over 100 acres of waste. Most of the garbage there is polythene and plastic. Till polythene and plastic (in general) are banned, how will this situation be changed? Today, coffee itself is parcelled in a plastic cover. Dosa, chutney, sambar and even coffee or tea are given to people in plastic. Pallikaranai needs a big change. The river there used to have such diversity and beautiful birds. Our entire nation and city have become a garbage dump. We have to be the change we want to see. What is independence? The right independence is a country without caste, creed, religion, discrimination against women and corruption. That is the true independence we have to work towards.”
