IS THE COMMON MAN READY TO ACCEPT 24?

Suriya’s 24 garnered highlighted reviews after its release on May 6th which led to expectations that the film will become a box office super hit in its coming weeks. It was also given a ‘Grand Opening' verdict by behindwoods, based on its opening shows in Chennai.

But as it commenced into its second weekend, the figures for the movie’s collection fell below the collection of other movies that got the Super Hit verdict in the box office. It is worthwhile noting that a number of reasons could be listed for this cloud upon 24’s horizons.24 was packed along with existing players such as Theri, The Jungle Book, and Manithan during its release. Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War also put a hand in the pie by releasing on the same day.

But the fact is that Theri and The Jungle Book’s spell on the box office had to a degree simmered down during 24’s release. Captain America’s audience base did not seem to be a threat to 24’s run. All these factors lead to a conclusion that there is another cause for such turn of events for 24.

Maybe the common man isn't ready to accept Sci-Fi movies in Kollywood. Films like Indru Netru Naalai and Aayirathil Oruvan which belong  to Sci-Fi and fantasy genre not  being able to outperform in the box office also suggest this.
