Rajini's costume designer reveals how he was scared of Ranjith at Kaala sets

With superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming Kaala, directed by Pa Ranjith, announced to release on June 7, we caught up with the film's costume designer Anu Vardhan, who has worked with big stars like Ajith and Rajinikanth himself earlier, to find out some exciting little trivia about the film.

And we got a good one. "I always tried to get the collars of his (Rajini's character) lifted. But Ranjith would intervene and tell me not to, as due to his persona, he would already stand out.

In fact, I would tell Rajini sir to lift the collar by himself for the takes, for which he would reply, "No no, let's not. Ranjith would get angry"! (laughs) He is such a director's actor. We would be sitting and Rajini sir would come gingerly, almost like he was scared of what Ranjith might say.

He has so much charm and style just by being himself that Ranjith and I had to actively work on toning it down."

Kaala director Pa Ranjith's statement on NEET Examination Issue

Director Pa Ranjith, whose Kaala starring superstar Rajinikanth is gearing up for release, is also up to date on social and political issues, about which he often voices his opinions frankly. Just a while ago, he tweeted this message about the ongoing NEET issue:

"#நீட்தேர்வு மாணவர்கள் மேல் நிகழ்த்தப்படும் அநீதி. நீட் ரத்து செய்யப்பட வேண்டும் என்று கோரிவந்த மாணவர்கள், இன்று எங்கள் மாநிலத்துக்குள்ளேயே தேர்வெழுத அனுமதியுங்கள் என்ற கெஞ்சும் நிலைக்கு போனதற்கு காரணம் மத்திய அரசும் அதன் நிழல் போல இருக்கும் மாநில அரசும் தான்!!"

Roughly translated into English, it reads:

"NEET examination is an injustice meted out on students. The same students who were fighting to abolish the examination, have now been pushed to beg for writing the exam in their own states, and the entities responsible for this are the central government and its shadow-like state government only."
