Kadhalan was a blockbuster delivered by Shankar and one that announced Prabhudeva as a bankable performer. But did you know not Nagma but Madhuri Dixit was the first choice for the heroine's role? This was confirmed to TOI by producer KT Kunjumon who said: I had distributed her films in Kerala. We approached her, but she didn’t have the dates. And someone referred Nagma, and she came on board.
