Finally, all the issues between Tamil film fraternity and the state government have been sorted out amicably. Vishal who addressed the press after the meeting with Cheif Minister announced the new ticket price policy for films in Tamil Nadu.
Multiplex can now charge a minimum of 50 rupees and a maximum rate of 150. Other A/C theatres are allowed a minimum price of 40 rs and a maximum of 100 whereas Non-A/C theatres can charge 30 rs minimum and 80 rs maximum. Vishal has also warned theatres not to cost more than the government suggested prices. These are base prices and GST, and ET would be exclusive of these rates.
So what would be the total price that a consumer will have to pay for a ticket?
Multiplex:
Base - Rs 150
+ 28% GST = Rs 42
+8% ET of Rs 150 = Rs 12
Total - Rs 204 (Online ticket charges not included)
Other AC theatres:
Base - Rs 100
+ 18% GST = 18
+ 8% ET of Rs 100 = Rs 8
Total - 126 (Online ticket charges not included)
Non-AC theatres:
Base - Rs 80
+ 18% GST = 14.40
+ 8% ET of 80 = 6.40
Total - 100.80 (Online ticket charges not included)
Now that Jayam Ravi’s Bhooloham confirms a spot for December 24th 2015, this Christmas weekend just got even more happening.
So far we have 4 films eyeing a Christmas release - Bhooloham, Pasanga 2, Vil Ambu and Anjala. Last year too, Tamil cinema saw 4 films releasing - Meaghamann, Kayal, Kappal and Vellaikaara Durai. It would be interesting to see how Dhanush’s Thangamagan will hold on in its 2nd week at the box office, and compete with these 4 films.
A little birdie hints to us that there is a slight possibility of Gitanjali Selvaraghavan’s Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam also releasing for Christmas!
