Nadigar Sangam sets up committee to address harassment

Recently, after the Me Too movement gained popularity online, a lot of celebrities were called out in public for harassment. The South Indian Artistes Association (or) Nadigar Sangam, was questioned by netizens for staying silent on the issue.

Addressing this, the Nadigar Sangam has set up an Internal Complaints Committee that will have a majority of women. The organisation sent a statement that had 2 points:

1) Although there are Sangam laws to safeguard the rights and self-respect of our members, a legally-mandated ‘Vishaka Committee’ will be constituted. This will contain a majority of women, and would include a psychologist as well.

2) It is recommended that an authoritative body be set up under the leadership of the Tamil Film Producers Council for the redressal of conflicts that arise at the shooting spot. It has also urged the TFPC to include Film Employees Federation of South India, and the Tamil Nadu Film Director's Association under this.
