MYSSKIN DECODES 'PSYCHO' VILLAIN AND THE FAMOUS 'RITUAL' SCENE- REPLY TO CRITICS
Home > Tamil Movies > Tamil Cinema NewsTamil auteur Mysskin's recent film, Psycho deals with the story of a visually impaired musician, who sets out to save his ladylove from a psychopath named Angulimali (played by Rajkumar). In an interaction with Behindwoods, Mysskin decodes various aspects and nuances of the film.
Mysskin stresses that the film is against capital punishment and the film advocates forgiveness and redemption, even towards psychopathic killers "Crimes like abuse and murder are horrible and the criminals ought to be punished. Still, we can give them a chance to reform by confining such individuals. I look at prison as rehabilitation centres."
When asked about the relevance of the film's opening quote- 'We are simultaneously gods and worms', with respect to it's characters, Mysskin said "Dahini was living a shallow, inconspicuous life of an RJ, whose job is to just sell stories. When she is immedietely trapped within a Psycho's den. After going through such pain, she became a god by forgiving an animal."
The scenarist-filmmaker also spoke about the highly debated 'ritual' scene involving Dahini, Anguli and his teacher Rachel "The scene is a variant of amphitheatre. Between 2-3 crimes, he has performed the ritual before a killing. Secondly, he has an interest in Dahini and is unknowingly attracted to her."
Mysskin clarified that the scene is a reimagination of the conventional 'flashback' trope "He (Anguli) has kidnapped his particularly to make her act in the scene. The psycho has repeatedly reenacted his past. The scene will give an ambiguous, yet psychadelic effect to the audience."
