The year 2018 saw Keerthy Suresh win the hearts of everyone, by pulling off the role of Savithri in Mahanati. The film was screened at the International Film Festival in Goa. Speaking at the prestigious film festival, she said:
"Once I came on board, I never doubted my abilities to pull off a seemingly difficult hole. But everything fell in place, thanks to a meticulous planning and the space given to me to understand and portray Savithri in the way the director desired but never forced it on me."
Admitting that she was exhausted at the end of it, Keerthy said the crowning glory was not just in her achievement but the movie winning the hearts of a mass audience and picked up at the International film festivals.
"Savithri Amma was an artiste I had admired, having got to know of her versatility from my family members. I was privileged to see many of her effortless characters in television, simply swept over by the ease and the effective ways of her body language. She was the benchmark for the talented ones after her era. Even today, a good shot at the set gets a reference and comparison to an idol revered by all in the industry."
"Even the legend thespian actor par excellence Sivaji Ganesan used to be in awe of his phenomenal talented counterpart in many of his films. When pointed out, Keerthy said that itself is a huge pointer to the greatness of an artiste, who regaled the audience in both Tamil and Telugu."
Doing a biopic again - this time of the the late actress-Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was just too much for me, acceded Keerthi. "I was drained out by the heaviness of the script in Mahanati. Not that I could not have justified my presence but felt another actress who had not done such a heavy one could be better suited."
As a parting shot, Keerthy said that irrespective of the count of films she does, `Mahanati' will be ever etched in her heart.
