#RIP: THEATRE MAESTRO PASSES AWAY, KAMAL HAASAN MOURNS THE DEMISE!

Aged 94, he was the longest-serving director of the National School of Drama. In his tenure as director from 1962 to 1977, he had mentored students who went on to become great actors, including Naseeruddin Shah and Om Puri.

Alkazi’s son, theatre director Feisal Alkazi, reportedly said he passed away on Tuesday afternoon after suffering a massive heart attack. He had been admitted to Escorts Hospital on Sunday night.

Condolences for Ebrahim poured in from political leaders, eminent theatre personalities and fans on social media. The latest one to break down was Kamal Haasan who tweeted, “A beacon of Indian theatre art and mentor of many great actors, Mr. Ebrahim Alkazi will be remembered for many generations. His love for theatre and the art is unmatched. My deepest condolences to the family and the NSD family.”
