"IT'S NOT A GAME TO FIGHT AND LOSE, IT'S JUSTICE" - JYOTHIKA'S PONMAGAL VANDHAL TRAILER BREAKDOWN
Home > Tamil Movies > Tamil Cinema NewsIn these grim times, where even during lockdown you hear crimes of passion, Jyothika’s Ponmagal Vandhal is a significant movie. The trailer of Ponmagal Vandhal starts off with a voice of a helpless child going, “Amma” in a highly terrified tone. It is often said that despite gender politics, a terrified child always asks for its mother first and it couldn’t be any more truer. Soon enough, another voice goes in a shrill manner, perhaps that of a parent or a bystander, you can’t say - “Someone please come, someone please help.”
This sets the tone for five children being kidnapped and killed and Jyothika coming to their rescue. One tries to guess that the movie is heavily themed around child trafficking or revolves around the bigger issue of sexual harassment. We will have to wait for its online premiere on May 29 to know more.
We are soon enough introduced to Jyothika’s gutsy lawyer act with her having a strong opponent in the counter lawyer - Partheipan, another terrific performer in his own right. She lists the flaws in the investigation including the slip-ups by the police department to only be met with resistance - no such evidence or report as you say, she is told.
Does she persevere through despite the obstacles is something we need to know after seeing the movie through. The trailer does do well to keep our anticipation higher with some definitive lines such as - “The only evidence victims of sexual harassment have is the truth” or “This is not a game to accept defeat after having tried enough. This is justice.”
Kudos to some intelligent writing by JJ Fredrick and all the more applause for Jo and Surya for having banked such a pressing subject as evident in the trailer. As with any of her movies in the recent past, Jo strongly looks at the camera with confident acting with the supportive cast too mightily lending its weight.
Dialogues, cinematography, music... every department seems to have beautifully come together.
You also see glimpses of veteran actors like Pandiarajan, Prathap Pothen and K Bhagyaraj and definitely kindled as to what magic they have in store for us.
(Ponmagal Vandhal starts streaming on Amazon Prime from May 29)
