HOW ARE RAJINI, SURIYA, SANTHANAM AND SIVAKARTHIKEYAN COPING WITH DEMONETIZATION?

The cash crunch scenario due to the demonetization of 500 and 1000 rupee notes in India is having varied effects in varied industries and the film industry is one which is feeling the pinch in many forms.

The primary effect was felt during the release of already date-announced films which resulted in their postponement.

Now it looks like the industry is having troubles in shooting too. This is mainly because of the disbursement of salaries to various work force like junior artists, stunt men, dancers and others, which are done on a daily basis through cash. As a result of the shortage of cash, shooting of many films stands postponed till a stability is reached.

Meanwhile, there are few films like Rajini’s 2.0, Suriya’s Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, Mohan Raja’s Sivakarthikeyan project and Santhanam’s Odi Odi Uzhaikkanum, which are dealing the crisis in their own innovative way. It looks like they are trying to make the payments through cheques either to the worker directly or to their respective unions which would reportedly disburse the amount to the respective technicians.

As they say, necessity is the mother of invention and our film industry is the best example of this adage.
