There are various inequalities in society depending on class, caste, gender, etc, which is why not everyone has equal opportunities and that is why the Constitution of India has guaranteed reservation. But the NEET exam eliminates such an objective and equates those who are unable to get equal opportunity with those who have the opportunity. This cannot be a healthy competition. Left with no other opportunity, students from impoverished backgrounds have to shell out a lot of money for NEET coaching in order to have a chance to cracking the exam.

The current health structure in Tamil Nadu is unprecedented as far as the other Indian states are concerned. We would like to remind you that this situation is possible only in the absence of selection via NEET exam.

Without taking into account, rural students and their struggles, education can’t be uniform across the country. While education is supposed to empower students, NEET has been terrorising them. Even parents are struggling, unable to come to the aid of their wards.

Retired judge AK Rajan has been tasked with heading a panel on why NEET is harmful. The actions of the Government of Tamil Nadu in doing this are commendable. We urge that these measures be taken in a manner that respects the sentiments of students and parents, and that efforts be made to cancel the NEET entrance examination without delay.
