‘IF NIRBHAYA VICTIM HAD SURVIVED!’ : POPULAR DIRECTOR ON ‘RANGANAYAKI'! | IFFI GOA 2019
Home > Tamil Movies > Tamil Cinema NewsWhat if the Nirbhaya rape victim had survived and exposed the vulturous men behind the act? That was the line which made filmmaker Dayal Padmanabhan to shape up his 'Ranganayaki Vol 1: Virginity', which had an appreciative audience savouring every moment at the ongoing IFFI 2019 Goa. Deviating from the normal pattern of revenge explicitly evident depicting rape victims, Dayal said he had visioned a bold character, who lives to fight her battle and the right to live.
"Life does not end with that trauma, she strongly believes with the confidence that the judicial system does have a place for rape survivors. Every man had to be ashamed at the Nirbhaya incident which was brought to light by a filmmaker but sadly it showcased only the efforts of the law force to nab the culprit.", the director remarked.
"What if the victim had survived and how the near and dear ones would have taken that. There were disturbing questions in my mind as to what could have been the mindset of the girl. Would she have dared to take head on against her perpetrators?", Dayal Padmanabhan questioned.
Dayal said the turning point was when he published the story happening in the form of a novel. "Once I had the material at hand, it was relatively simple to find the characters to execute it on the big screen. Ranganayaki believed in living her life to the fullest and her bubbly ways was exploited by a group of men." On what gave Ranganayaki the confidence to join the four-men hosting a birthday party, the director explained, "As the character says in the movie that is the same level of confidence when a woman inspector works with her male counterparts in the late hours of a police station."
