“THEY DANCE BETTER THAN THE ACTORS”

Dance master and actress Gayathri Raghuramm is making her directorial debut with Yaadhumaagi Nindraai which talks about the travails of group dancers in the film industry. The audio of the film was recently launched. Gayathri talks to us about the film.

Yaadhumaagi Nindraai
It is based on true incidents; I have taken bits and pieces from the lives of many female dancers and what they undergo. As a dance master, I have not done any background dancing in my career but I have seen the lives of these people. It is not easy for them. Although women domination in the dancing field cannot be ruled out, they have many difficulties. For example, when they go for the outdoor shoot, sometimes, there may not be restrooms too. Despite all that, they manage to do their work happily, whether it rains or shines. And when they come back home, is there enough money for them? The answer is a big NO. In fact, they dance better than the actors. But still, they are not recognized. I have narrated the story of one particular dancer. The film is not just about dancers but also about women empowerment.

Cast
I am the only known face in the film, everyone else is new and fresh. They have all done a superb job. None of them are actors except for one or two.

Acting and directing
It was a little tough for me to act and also call the shots. It was weird to say action and cut, myself.

Music
Newcomer Ashwin Vinayagam has composed the songs and they are all superb. Dhanush has sung a number and his Wunderbar Films has taken over the music.
