COURT HALTS RELEASE OF VEMAL AND VARALAXMI SARATHKUMAR'S KANNIRASI
Home > Tamil Movies > Tamil Cinema NewsThe Chennai civil court has issued a temporary injunction against the producers of Vemal's Kannirasi from releasing the film that was scheduled to hit theatres alongside Kavalthurai Ungal Nanban today (November 27).
King Movie Makers has produced the film for which the distribution rights of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry, were sold to "Media Times" who paid Rs 17 lakh to the producers.
However, the film didn't release by 2018 as stipulated in the agreement entered into by the two parties. The production house had even recently advertised that the film would hit the theatres today.
Subsequently, Media Times proprietor Altaf Ahmed had approached the court citing that the production house is trying to release the film via another distributor and had also demanded that the money he had given be returned to him as Rs 21,8,000 along with the interest.
Subsequently, it was ruled that the film's release would be temporarily halted and Shameen Ibrahim of King Movie Makers was also asked to submit a reply regarding this plea by December 7.
