THE GRAND 3RD EDITION OF ‘COSMOGLITZ AWARDS 2017’

Chennai Plastic Surgery recently hosted the 3rd edition of ‘Cosmoglitz Awards 2017’, grandly in the city. Chennai Plastic Surgery, the renowned chain of cosmetic surgery and weight loss centres has an extensive presence across south India is based in Chennai.

Actress and social activist Rohini and Prof. R. Venkataswami, Head - Apollo's National Institute for Reconstructive Surgery, Microsurgery and Hand Surgery, honoured a team of eight bold burn survivors with the ‘Glitz Phoenix’ award. Those women are not easily accepted by the society because of their tragedy. They have taken it as a challenge to overcome their situation with confidence.  After receiving formal training, the survivors are currently employed at the ‘Writer’s Café’ in Royapettah, Chennai. The award is a symbol of celebration to their positive outlook and determination to excel at work.

50-year-old Sujatha Menon was awarded the ‘Glitz Avatar’ in appreciation of having lost 50kgs over a period of 3.5 years. She achieved this transformation through a proper diet and regular exercise, without going under the knife, giving hope to many who are fighting weight issues.

Others award recipients included Abhi Prasad – ‘Mr. Glitz’, Meera Mitun – ‘Ms. Glitz’, Punitha Karthik – ‘Mrs. Glitz’, Pulkit Bajoria – ‘Mr. Fresh Face’ and Reshma Nambiar – ‘Ms. Fresh Face’.

Prior to the Award Ceremony, Two invigorating panel discussions on the topics ‘Fair is not always Lovely’ and ‘Body Shaming and Imagined Ugliness Syndrome’. While the first panel discussed the ‘Pros and Cons of improving skin colour through various treatments', the latter discussed ‘Societal standards of colour and weight discrimination and overcoming them'. Well known social activists, plastics surgeons, psychologists, dieticians, fashion designers and veterans across fields participated in the discussions.

Further, the event also saw the grand release of Sunitha Raj’s book ‘Liposuction – The Big Fat Story". The book was released by Prof. R. Venkataswami. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Karthik Ram, Managing Director and Chief Cosmetic Surgeon Chennai - Plastic Surgery said, “We have consistently been providing superior surgical solutions such as Liposuction, Male Breast Correction, Hair Transplant, Rhinoplasty, Tummy Tuck, Breast Augmentation / Reduction etc. in addition to various non-surgical solutions for obesity, hair and skin related issues. The Cosmoglitz awards are an effort to showcase exemplary individuals, to encourage others in the society. Just like the burn survivors who were awarded this year, we propose to honour achievers from the transgender community next year. We are also planning a huge forum to enable transgender people to discuss the problems they face in their everyday life.”

Chennai Plastic Surgery has provided services to clients from across 67 countries. They have done around 600 - 700 Plastic Surgeries in the year 2016 - 2017.
