From commercial movies, he slowly moved onto movies full of social message and awareness. Subsequently, the popular actor became a popular politician as well.
The actor had founded the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Political party in 2005 and served as a Member of Legislative Assembly twice. He also became the Opposition Party leader in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016.
His active involvement in politics suffered a setback after he faced major health issues. But he has briskly recovered from the same. In a very recent event honoring elected DMDK candidates, he spoke that he will be back soon, more actively, and that everyone should have refreshments before they leave, leaving his audience in cheerful rapture.
