Thalaivi is directed by Vijay. Pictures of Kangana in a Bharatanatyam attire and recently, one in a perfect resemblance with Jayalalithaa had won hearts just as Arvind Swamy's MGR look did. The movie is scheduled for release on June 26, 2020.

The last shoot schedule of the movie happened at Puducherry, and in addition to Thalaivi, the actress has taken up another project in Hindi titled TEJAS, where she will play the role of an air force pilot. Till date, Thalaivi's first look and MGR first look videos have been released.
