Bhagyaraj's statement on Sarkar story issue's final judgement at Court

The hearing of Sarkar story similarity happened this morning at Madras High Court, where it was told that, both the parties agreed to come in terms mutually, by sorting out the issue. It was also revealed that director A.R.Murugadoss would add an acknowledgement card in the film for Varun Rajendran.

Legendary director Bhagyaraj, President of South Indian Film Writers Association, along with Varun Rajendran, came out of the Court to address the media. During the meet, Bhagyaraj opened up by saying, "Both the directors, A.R.Murugadoss and Varun Rajendran are members of our association, and when they had a difference of opinion, we had to intervene. Varun had registered his script with the association in 2007, and he came to know the plotline of Sarkar, through a newspaper article.

He felt the similarity with his story and approached our association. I got in touch with Murugadoss and requested him to talk and sort out this issue, in person, but he wanted to face it legally. As a creator of this film and the story, he felt it was his right to fight. He stated that he worked hard, along with his entire team for this film.

Varun, with a similar thought process, had written this line ten years back, and very recently, I requested Murugadoss to acknowledge or recognize the work.  He took some time to think and finally agreed to have an acknowledgement card in the film, and in that way, both the parties decided to come in terms.

Vijay fans were tensed if the film would get postponed due to this issue. We would never do that and that wasn't our notion either. The issues are sorted out now and the fans can watch the film from Diwali.

I was personally hurt with this issue, with all the criticisations and baseless allegations. My own son (Shanthanu) is a Vijay fan and he is being targetted and abused on social media for no reason. Why should he be criticised? A set of people were worried with me for letting out the story of Sarkar compeletely. When the whole issue is about the similarity in the story, how could I not tell about it? Only when I explain in detail, my statement would have its authenticity. Else it could be termed as a baseless allegation. I had no other choice other than sharing the story of the film.

I would like to thank A.R.Murugadoss for coming down to appreciate an associate director for his work. I am glad that this case was solved smoothly without any issues. Everyone belong to the same film fraternity and they understood the need to stand together.
