Right from black and white movies to new age digital movies, AVM has been a major player in the Cinema industry, with various blockbusters and national awards for their movies. People throughout the world can never forget the iconic AVM Films' title logo introduction music and the man behind it - A.V.Meiyappan, who is fondly called as ‘Appuchi’, in the Chettinad district of the state.

The famous AVM studios in the city was inaugurated in 1949. The first movie to be shot there was A.V.M’s ‘Vaazhkai’, which was a grand hit. AVM Studios still stands tall and is one of the iconic landmarks of Madras (now Chennai).

A.V.M. Saravanan, son of A.V.Meiyappa Chettiar has also revealed that although it has been a long time since AVM produced films, they will be soon venturing back into production once there is normalcy in the cinema industry. Well, this is some great news as one of the blockbuster production houses are eyeing at a comeback soon.

At this juncture, Behindwoods is proud to institute an award in A.V.Meiyappa Chettiar’s name, called the AVM Gold Medal for Visionary in Indian Cinema. The honorary recipients of the awards are 2 of India’s biggest directors - S.S.Rajamouli in 2017 and Shankar Shanmugam in 2019.
