While hearing the case that was filed in 2015, the Madras High Court questioned him as to why he refused to pay taxes when ordinary people agree to pay. "Actors should act as responsible citizens and should not ply their cars without paying taxes fully," the court said. Justice S M Subramaniam also came down on the 'Karnan' actor for not disclosing his profession in his plea and directed him to explain on Friday (August 6).

Actor Dhanush was asked to pay Rs 60.66 lakhs as entry tax by the commercial tax department for his imported luxury car which he bought in 2015 in order to issue the non-objection certificate.

The court directed the RTO to register the actor's car on the condition that he should deposit half the tax money within two weeks. The time limit was extended and he paid Rs 30.33 lakhs in November 2015 after which he had gone to court challenging it based on past court rulings against entry tax then.

Today, (August 5) Dhanush told the court that he is willing to pay the pending tax amount by August 9 and sought the court's nod to withdraw the case, but it was refused by Justice SM Subramaniam. It is to be noted that the judge, who handled Vijay's case, has handled Dhanush's case too.
