Actor Vivekh was abuzz on Twitter today when he posted a PSA on his page about the summer. The tweet read:

"Dear students n kids! Despite summer, enjoy your vacation.Drink lots of water after playing.Girls! b helpful to your moms in kitchen n learn cooking.Boys,go to your dad”s workplace n see how he works for your family!Bond thickens! @sunnewstamil @polimernews @bbctamil @ThanthiTV"

As with any social media post, this too was open to a lot of debate due to the many interpretations of tweeple, some of whom questioned the idea of gender roles implied in the statement.

This included TV anchor and political analyst Sumanth Raman, who replied with a tweet that read:

"Sir why not girls help their parents at work and boys too help in the kitchen? May be a good idea to reconsider your statement sir."

Vivekh himself later tweeted another statement in an attempt to clear the confusion regarding his initial tweet, which read:

"அன்பு நண்பரே! தாயிடம் இருந்து சமையலையும் தந்தையிடம் இருந்து கடின உழைப்பையும் இந்த விடுமுறைக் காலத்திலாவது தெரிந்து கொள்க என்ற என் பதிவை அனைத்துப் பெற்றோரும் ஆமோதிப்பர். என்னை புரிந்து கொண்ட உங்களுக்கு நன்றி."

Roughly translated, the statement read:

"Dear friends! To learn cooking from one's mother and hard work from one's father in the summer holidays is what I registered, and all parents will agree. To those who understood me, thanks."
