The legendary Jayakanthan passes away!
Apr 09, 2015Legendary Tamil writer Jayakanthan left for his heavenly abode last night (8th April) after a prolonged illness. He was 81 years old and is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
Jayakanthan is known for his fierce and ahead of times outlook and approach, and has written many short stories and novels and has won numerous awards for his work, the significant ones being Sahitya Akademi and Jnanpith awards.
He is always known to speak his mind on social injustices and his writing advocated women empowerment. His work Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal got made into a feature film for which heroine Lakshmi won her National Award for Best Actress.
Jayakanthan’s body is kept at his K K Nagar residence for people to pay their last respects and the cremation is said to happen around 3 PM today (9th April) at the Besant Nagar crematorium.
Behindwoods mourns the demise of this prolific writer whose loss has left a huge and irreplaceable void in the literary world. May his soul rest in peace!
