''AFTER THE STRUGGLE TO RELEASE MY FILM, I WANTED TO TAKE A BREAK AND SPEND TIME WITH MY FAMILY''

Moodar Koodam was a different take in Tamil cinema directed and produced by Naveen, who is now funding his associate Dhanaram Saravanan's Kolanji. The film features Rajaji (Moodar Koodam fame) and Naina Sarwar from Sandalwood as the leads. Samuthirakani plays a pivotal role as a Periyarist and Sanghavi is making a comeback in an integral character in the film.

Talking about the film, Naveen states, “Kolanji is the name of a 13 year old boy and the film is about the incidents that happen around him. This does not mean it is a children’s film but it is about Kolanji, his parents and the love between his cousins. The parents' role in this film is essential to the story line and when I approached Samuthirakani, he immediately agreed. For Sanghavi, this would be a meaningful comeback and you will see a different Sanghavi in the film”.

Why shift from direction to production? “I just go with my instincts and flow. I had a lot of struggle to make Moodar Koodam and after its release, I wanted a break so as to spend quality time with my family. That’s the time Saravanan came with many scripts and Kolanji was a wonderful one among them with a simple storyline. As a producer, I wanted to make a simple, lighthearted, feel-good film. Kolanji fits the bill and it has all elements of an entertainer like romance, comedy and sentiment mixed in right proportion”.

About the progress of the film Naveen discloses that talkie portions and dubbing are completed and that there are three songs to be shot after which the film will be ready for business. The release will be planned afterwards.

Naveen also plans to start his next direction venture, after the release of Kolanji.
