With minimal to no awareness of the movie, 'Will You Marry Me?' was almost a non entity in this week's Friday box office race. And with the posters, one expected a triangular love story with comedy forced into the narrative. But sometimes such movies can become a pleasant surprise, and 'Will you Marry me?' is exactly that. The movie starts off decently by establishing the three main characters Aarav (Shreyas) - the Geeky simpleton, good-hearted Nikhil (Muzammil Ibrahim), and the gambling playboy Rajveer (Rajeev Khandelwal). One of Rajveer's gambling companions tries to disrupt Nikhil's wedding. With just 7 days for the wedding the three friends have to find a way to get out of Rajveer's mess. How they do it forms the rest of the story. The movie is a Romantic Comedy with comedy taking the centre stage as romance gets its share only in the second half. After four movies which hardly made any box office impact, Aditya Dutt impresses one and all with a good story with ample scope for comedy. There are several scenes which will make you laugh and few that make you feel for the characters which is in itself is a success for the director. But few more script sittings could have enriched the movie with creative, fresh and original scene ideas. The second half becomes very clichéd and predictable with all the three trying to sacrifice for one another. Few scenes were not followed up properly like the bride's father catching the groom wearing a woman's undergarment and chases him all over a mall and the next scene he is fine with it. Similarly, the bride cries out when she finds the groom with many bikini clad girls in his bachelor party but is all groomed up and happy by the next scene which is her mehendi ceremony. Aditya Dutt also showed lack of maturity while he dealt with homosexualality as mocking them for comedy is just not funny. Rajeev Khandelwal and Shreyas share the acting credentials with Muzammil giving good support. After very long Paresh Rawal gets a small but significant role and he impresses as the baddie, especially when he threatens Shreyas just before the climax. Mugdha Godse as usual impresses with her acting and looks good too. Celina comes as a special appearance and looks very tired, hardly mouthing any dialogues. Manoj Joshi impresses as the father of the bride. Technically the movie is just about fine with below average work behind the camera by Dwaraganath Rangaraj. Many scenes had no focus and many had bad framing with the actors going off and coming back on the frame. All the songs were decent but far from impressive. Editing could have been more taut in the second half. Overall it is a pleasant surprise and the movie will actually make you smile. But unfortunately due to some immature sequences, cliched and predictable screenplay in the second half, the movie will find it very hard to generate enough word of mouth to bring in the crowd into the theatre.
Verdict: Will surely make you smile
