After long, Udita Gosawami comes back on screen and this time as a lead actor in Bhagyashree Production’s The Diary of a Butterfly. Films like Zeher, Aksar, Paap gave her visibility as a bold actor but she is yet to taste the desired success. However, with little precedent to Udita’s acting skills, we need to see how this film turns out.
The Diary of a Butterfly is the story of an ambitious small town girl who travels to Mumbai with her diary in search of success. As per her mother’s advice, she records her arrogant and ruthless climb to success in her diary. Successful, yet estranged from friends and loved ones, she realizes her mistakes and sets out to correct them. But its payback time and her apologies are treated with disdain. Infuriated, she decides to get back to her old ways.
Udita as Gul is average. Rajeev Singh as her boyfriend and Ronny Jhutti as her office senior are below average. The film itself does not serve as much of a platform due to a weak script and weaker screenplay. Vinod Mukhi’s direction focuses more on irrelevant titillation than a strong plot to draw audiences. The film is an overdose of intimate scenes and skin show, which may grab a few eyeballs. The story leaves the audience confused as to what the message really is.
Technically the film is no better and does not warrant any special mentions. The music is ordinary. None of the tracks really stand out.
Verdict: Poor narrative and average acting make the film a let down.
