Welcome
to the Kollywood Spring! The
industry is abounding with film
makers who are steadfast in
their commitment to dish out
the ‘Movie Perfect’
and the audience is not complaining.
Amidst films that in all sincerity
work to keep the carnal instincts
aroused, director Arun Vaidhyanathan
has taken the mantle to

address a serious global issue in his debut
flick Achamundu Achamundu and passes the
muster with flying colors.
The film is about the dark events that take
place in various parts of the world which
are hard to digest but at the same time
cannot be dismissed off. Although the theme
of child abuse is a serious issue and has
the potency to take on a different shade
with even the slightest skew, Arun Vaidhyanathan
has done a tightrope walking commendably
with absolutely no shades of vulgarity or
impropriety. Kudos for tackling such a sensitive
subject with a lot of sensibility and acumen!
Casting of Sneha, Prasanna and their daughter
and John Shea is perfect. Although Arun
Vaidhyanathan’s story moves a wee
bit slowly, it nevertheless travels in a
linear fashion without even the slightest
detour. We may live in America or the best
place on earth, but the mere mention of
our hometown is sure to bring a megawatt
smile to our visage. Testimony to this fact
is Sneha. The lady has sure enjoyed her
role every inch and essayed it with a flourish.
Prasanna and Sneha have lived like a married
couple very much in love and their romance
is a thing of beauty. Prasanna’s courage
in choosing such meaningful films should
be applauded. John Shea’s performance
as the painter is natural and brings a chill
down our spine.
Karthik Raja proves that music is in his
blood after all. The other Hollywood technicians
have done their part well.
Indian cinema needs films like Achamundu
Achamundu. How long would the audience be
forced to watch formulaic claptrap? By making
this film successful, we are only helping
to augur the era of meaningful and socially
relevant films.
Be it a girl or a boy child, the events
that happen to these children are sure to
torment us for after all they are ours!
Verdict:
Achamundu Achamundu - The fear is there!
