The
title could be reminiscent of
a moving old song, but the movie
has nothing in it to move you,
literally. Sitcom director Sudeesh
Shankar’s debut Aaru Maname
is a poorly mixed cocktail concoction
that gives you an instant hangover
followed by other mental complications
upon consumption, least of them
being the money you blew up
on the tickets.

Rajesh, Meera Krishna, Deepak and Sreeman
form one small happy family. While Sreeman,
the PWD Engineer, is successful, the protagonist
Deepak is an auto driver struggling with
life. Being a government official in a position
vulnerable to the wrath of politicians,
Sreeman gets murdered in a controversial
assignment. Now it’s Deepak, the brother’s
role to seek revenge and in the process
unearth his brother’s secrets.
As is noticeable, there is ample scope for
drama and action in the plot. But the problem
with the plot is that it doesn’t get
serious until after interval. Most part
of the first half is consumed in unintelligent
indolence. Kanja Karuppu’s comedy
is so excruciating that it feels unpardonable
to have him cast in a double role that only
doubles up the misery.
Rajesh and Meera Krishnan deliver as dutiful
parents and Sreeman appears momentarily
in a less significant role. Deepak’s
bouncy stunts and dance moves prove to be
a ball lost in the high weeds for they serve
little purpose in the movie marred with
other shortfalls. Karthika’s role
earns some sympathy and it’s quite
opposite with Nicole who couldn’t
just save the disgrace of being cast as
a fat chick with her cutesy smile or plump
figure.
Aaru
Maname, thus, drags along to culminate into
a dreary climax where everybody gets everything
and all the misgivings are resolved miraculously.
Verdict:
Let’s stay home!
